I am a musician from the south of the UK, I like making music and playing with my synths. I've made game music and electronic music professionally in the past. I aim to keep on designing delightful and complex music for many years to come.

Trying to be like someone I'm not.

One of my favourite electronic artists is the world famous Jean Michel Jarre, JMJ for short. I inspired to be like him one day, but he's got A.) about fourty years of hands on analogue synth knowlage, which I don't...guess im a wee babby in this field...

I've tried taking inspiration from his albums before and only until now actually made something which could feasibly be passed off as kind of sounding like him. Since I don't have access to a EMS VCS synthesiser, I'm very limited to the kind of sound effects I can make. The track I made today, I mainly used Vanguard to make all the SFX and custom synth sounds. I'm not far off, I've just got to learn not to over clutter my tracks with too many instruments as I tend to make my songs a little bit too overly complicated. One thing I have in the new track which JMJ doesn't have in Oxygene as an album is a drum track, I've put in some experimental patterns, but its still got a nice flow.

I actually set out today to make a track which sounded like "Chonology part 4", as generally I would dare touch Oxygene as the overall sound I feel is out of my league, but after a bit of a play on keyboards and experimenting around with new sound sets, I made this new track, while being inspired by is still completly original. I think it sounds pretty good and its got nice mixing values. Here is the link to "Complications": http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/764198

On another note Dan (Fireball01e) earlier released a track which he's been working on for a while, which I did a bit of vocal work on (probably some of my better vocals to be honest). He's very recently just purchased himself a original   1970's Fender Rhodes Electric Piano (EP for short), and he's not bad, he knows a lot of blues and jazz style chording. The track he released this morning sounds pretty similar (I think) to a group which were around in the early 90's, which are called "Portishead". If you like this kind of music give it a listen I think it came sounding really good!

As I discussed in the last post, I've still got a load of backburner stuff which maybe just released in the next fortnight sometime. I've got a new mega mix called "Egocentic" which maybe released later today, which is a bunch of the best dance tracks from last year but remade and made into about a six or seven minute long mix.

If you want to know about analogue synths then you might want to look at Sound on Sound's Synth Secrets, if you haven't already.
